Whether you’re joining a virtual meeting, writing a work email, or giving a short presentation, knowing what to say—and how to say it—can make a big difference. Here are some practical phrases you can start using right away to sound more confident and professional in English.

In Meetings

Start with a strong opening:

  • “Let’s get started, shall we?”

  • “Thanks for joining. Let’s jump right in.”

When sharing your opinion:

  • “I believe that…”

  • “From my point of view…”

When you need to clarify or ask:

  • “Just to clarify, do you mean…?”

  • “Could you repeat that last part?”

If you want to agree or disagree politely:

  • “That’s a great point, and I’d like to add…”

  • “I see what you mean, but I think…”

In Emails

Start with a polite greeting:

  • “I hope this message finds you well.”

  • “Thank you for your email.”

Making a request:

  • “Could you please send me…?”

  • “I’d appreciate it if you could…”

Following up:

  • “Just checking in regarding…”

  • “I’m following up on my previous message.”

Ending the email:

  • “Looking forward to your response.”

  • “Let me know if you have any questions.”

In Presentations

Opening your talk:

  • “Good morning everyone. Today, I’ll be talking about…”

  • “Let me begin by giving you a quick overview of…”

Moving from one point to another:

  • “Next, let’s look at…”

  • “Now, I’d like to focus on…”

Ending with confidence:

  • “That wraps up my presentation. Thank you for your time.”

  • “I’d be happy to take any questions.”

💡 Tip: Don’t aim for perfect grammar—aim for clarity and tone.

🗣 Practice these phrases out loud and make them part of your everyday work language. Over time, they’ll feel natural.
